Hi FRIENDS, I’m Shaun.
Welcome to WorkPeacefully
At WorkPeacefully, my mission is simple: to help you transform your work life through mindfulness and reclaim the peace, fulfillment, and confidence you deserve.
I’m Shaun Southworth, founder and managing partner of Southworth PC, a law firm dedicated to representing federal employees worldwide. Over the next five years, my firm aims to help 500 federal employees resolve their workplace disputes. But beyond the courtroom, my passion lies in equipping individuals like you with tools to navigate workplace stress and hostility through mindfulness and practical strategies.
Why Listen to Me?
With 15+ years of experience and over 20,000 hours as an employee rights attorney, I’ve seen the profound toll toxic work environments can take on people’s mental, emotional, and physical health. I’ve litigated against some of the largest governmental agencies—including the Department of Defense, Department of Justice, and Department of Veterans Affairs—securing meaningful settlements and pushing for systemic change.
But my work isn’t just about winning legal battles; it’s about empowering people to thrive. For nearly ten years, I have studied and practiced mindfulness on a daily basis. By integrating mindfulness techniques into my practice, I’ve helped hundreds of clients not only confront legal challenges but also find emotional clarity and calm amidst the chaos.
I’m also the creator and host of The Mindful Workplace Podcast, where I share insights, interview thought leaders, and answer your questions about using mindfulness to thrive at work. Whether you’re struggling with workplace stress, navigating office politics, or striving to lead with compassion, I provide actionable advice you can use immediately.
Why I’m Passionate About This Work
Stress in the workplace isn’t just an inconvenience—it’s a crisis:
83% of U.S. workers report daily work-related stress.
Workplace stress costs U.S. businesses over $300 billion annually in absenteeism, lost productivity, and accidents.
It’s linked to serious health issues like hypertension, heart attacks, and depression.
I know this struggle firsthand. I grew up in Wyoming as the first in my family to attend college, earned my degree from Grinnell College, and taught middle school in low-income schools through Teach for America. After graduating from Duke Law and receiving a labor and employment award, I faced my own career challenges, including being laid off—a moment that taught me resilience and empathy for the struggles so many employees face.
This personal and professional journey inspired my passion for mindfulness as a solution to the challenges of workplace stress. Mindfulness isn’t just a buzzword—it’s a science-backed, practical tool for transforming the way we navigate our professional lives.
